Dr. Martin Böcker

Dr. Martin Böcker studied psychology in Berlin and at Exeter and, after his studies, worked at SEL Alcatel on developing user interfaces for multimedia communications systems. In 1991, he changed over to the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Berlin, where he researched new video communications technologies. Starting in 1997, Dr. Böcker worked at Siemens, where he first founded the Usability Laboratory in the COM area and was responsible for operating manuals for wireless and mobile phones. Starting in 2007, he led the Technical Editing department at Siemens IL. Since the beginning of 2014, Dr. Böcker has been working at Airbus Defence and Space in Immenstaad.

Prof. Sissi Closs

Prof. Sissi Closs is Professor of Information and Media Technology at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and CEO of C-Topic Consulting. She is one of the leading German experts in the field of technical communication. She is an internationally well-known lecturer and consultant for XML and information architecture. Sissi Closs has defined the class concept method® for developing flexible frameworks for Topic and Link classes®. As a specialist for topic-based structuring, she belongs to the DITA pioneers and has designed and implemented the first DITA implementation in Germany at Deutsche Post. She is also the author of a number of books about single source publishing, topic-based structuring, and mobile documentation.

Dr. Peter Ebenhoch

Dr. Peter Ebenhoch, PMP, is management consultant at Schmeling + Consultants in Heidelberg. He has 15 years of experience with information processing and information quality in the publishing and technical documentation domains. Dr. Ebenhoch is a project management professional (PMP) and certified expert for business process modeling. His current area of work includes optimizing project communication and the advancement of information process maturity.

Prof. Anja Grunwald

Professor Anja Grunwald has been Full Professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Karlsruhe since 2008, where she teaches design and visualization in the technical communication degree programs. She works in the fields of layout, typography, illustration, and photography. Her research activities in these fields focus on perception and comprehensibility. She is the owner of the design company adk architektur design kommunikation.

    Jens-Uwe Heuer-James

    Jens-Uwe Heuer-James is a lawyer who specializes in liability law with a focus on product liability, environmental liability, and international liability law, as well as distribution and insurance rights. He is also the author and editor of scholarly articles in his area of specialization. Jens-Uwe Heuer-James serves as the legal expert at tekom.

    Prof. Dr. Martin Ley

    Martin Ley is professor for information management at the University of Applied Sciences Munich in Germany. His research activities include quality management of processes and information products, information modeling, and the deployment of semantic technologies in pre-sales and after-sales communication strategies. Martin Ley has worked since 2000 in the field of technical communication: for the automotive industry, as business development manager for service / information processes and as a consultant for structuring and standardizing information products as well as concepts for information systems.

    Dr. François Massion

    Dr. François Massion is the executive director and co-founder of D.O.G. Dokumentation ohne Grenzen GmbH (German for "documentation without limits") in Leonberg near Stuttgart, and has been teaching terminology at Anhalt University (FH) in Köthen since 2008. In 1984, he received his German "Diplom" (Postgraduate degree) as a translator from the Johannes Gutenberg University in Germersheim. In 1986 he completed his doctorate in the area of Lexicography at Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen.

    Prof. Jürgen Muthig

    Jürgen Muthig teaches at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences in Germany. He is Full Professor in the Karlsruhe Technical Communication program with a specialization in standardized document engineering. Before he started his career in teaching he was the managing director of Tanner Consulting, a consulting company in the technical communication industry. In the 1990s Prof. Muthig developed "Functional Design", a text-production and standardization method, together with Prof. Schäflein-Armbruster. Recently he was re-elected to serve for a second three-year term as President of tekom.

    Holger Matthes

    Holger Matthes completed his German "Diplom" (Postgraduate degree) in Social Work at the University of Niederrhein / Mönchengladbach. In 2003 he completed his "Diplom" as a technical communicator from the University of Karlsruhe. Between 2003 and 2006, he worked as a technical communicator in the automotive industry. Since 2006, he has worked as a technical communicator and consultant at DOCUFY GmbH (XML-based content management software). Holger Matthes has also worked as a trainer for software basics and standardization with MSWord at the University of Karlsruhe from 2002 to 2007. From 2006 to 2010 he gave regular workshops at tekom conventions. Since 2004 he has been actively writing articles for "technische kommunikation", the magazine of tekom.

    Prof. Dr. Markus Nickl

    Prof. Dr. Markus Nickl is the founder and CEO of doctima, a technical writing company specializing in comprehensible and efficient language processes based on current linguistic research. He is a lecturer for technical writing at several universities. Markus Nickl has published scientific and general interest papers on various aspects of knowledge management, technical communication, and corporate communication.

    Ralf Robers

    Ralf Robers is master of electronic engineering and head of the documentation department at Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics GmbH in Konstanz. For almost 25 years he is well familiar with the overall technical communication business. Starting as a technical writer in 1992 he took over his first leading position in 1994 with responsibility for many national and international documentation projects of different sizes. In 1999, Ralf Robers stood at the forefront to implement a content management system for technical writing in a company of the capital goods industry. He has written several professional articles and conference presentations for tekom and other business associations and is co-author of a new reference book about technical documentation, which was released in October 2015.

    Prof. Dr. Annely Rothkegel

    Research and teaching of Prof. Annely Rothkegel includes several areas of linguistics (computational linguistics, text analysis and production, hypertext, languages for special purposes, technical communication, risk communication, sustainability communication, visual communication, new media). Currently, she is visiting professor at University of Hildesheim after working at Saarbrucken University, Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Chemnitz University of Technology. She is author, editor and co-editor of national and international books and series and is/was involved in a large variety of international and interdisciplinary workshops and projects (e.g. in Belgium, England, Finland, France, Japan, Poland, Romania, Spain).

    Roland Schmeling

    Roland Schmeling is senior consultant and managing director of Schmeling + Consultants GmbH (Ltd.), which he founded in 2007 together with Prof. Robert Schäflein-Armbruster. Since 1999 he has advised industrial enterprises on technical documentation with a focus on standardization, structuring, usability, and information management. Mr. Schmeling studied physics and philosophy of language. He is expert and process auditor for technical documentation at TÜV SÜD, one of the world’s leading inspection companies, where he established a test laboratory for technical documentation. Since 2004 he has lectured on quality assurance as Adjunct Professor at the Hochschule Furtwangen University (HFU). Roland Schmeling is a voluntary member of the standards board of tekom and is involved in the development of the standardization method Functional Design.

    Dr. Tony Self

    Dr. Tony Self has worked as a technical communicator for almost 30 years, with the last 20 of those years specifically in the areas of online help systems, computer-based training, and electronic documents. In 1993, Tony founded HyperWrite, a hypertext and technical documentation company based in Melbourne, Australia. The majority of his work involves providing online and Internet strategy advice, innovative solutions, and specialized training for customers in Australia and other parts of the world. Mr. Self also lectures in the Technical Communication program at Swinburne University in Melbourne, and holds a Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning and a Graduate Diploma in Technical Communication. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators (UK), a member of the OASIS DITA Technical Committee, and the author of The DITA Style Guide.

    Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dirk Schmitz

    Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dirk Schmitz is Full Professor for Terminology Studies and Language Technology at the Institute for Translation and Multilingual Communication at Cologne University of Applied Sciences; Managing Director of the Institute for Information Management at Cologne University of Applied Sciences; Vice President of the German Terminology Association; and Chairman of the German National Standards Committee "Systems for Managing Terminology, Knowledge and Content".

    Prof. Dr. Melanie Siegel

    Dr. Melanie Siegel is Professor of Information Science at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. She has more than 20 years of experience in research and industrial applications of language technology. Melanie Siegel holds Ph.D. and Habilitation from Bielefeld University. She has done research and teaching at DFKI and University of Saarbrücken, at Acrolinx GmbH, and in Darmstadt.

      Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ziegler

      Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ziegler (theoretical physicist) has worked since 1997 as a consultant on concepts, implementation, and use of information systems in technical documentation. In 2003 he became Professor of Content and Information Management at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. His research activities include information modeling, reuse concepts, and process management within XML-based content management. In 2005, 2008 and 2014 he co-authored the surveys on CMS published by tekom.
